Pre-Teen Studio Intensives for Ages 10-12

Studio Intensives are a part of ArtsQuest’s Summer Art Camp. They are designed to give pre-teen artists (ages 10-12) the opportunity to explore specific mediums and processes in greater depth in a fun and encouraging environment. 

Summer Art Camp will take place at Moravian University’s South Campus, located at 346 Main St. in Bethlehem, PA 18018.

Recycled Papermaking with Emma Ryan

Handmade paper can be a surface to create art on, or a work of art in itself. Discover wet and dry paper-making techniques, and use recycled materials to make original works of paper art.

 

 

 

Animal Art with Katrina Heebner

Create animals, from cartoony to realistic! In this class you’ll learn a variety of artistic techniques such as drawing, painting, and collage to make different types of animals.

Tableau: Creative Still Lives with Lexi Schnabel

Students will study still life throughout art history, including classical, baroque, modern and postmodern, etc. Over the week they will create multiple intriguing still lives in reflection and exploration of what they observe and appreciate, finding ways to make it fun and customized to their personalities.

Linoleum Block Printing with Gabriella Gentile

Students will draw and carve their own design into a soft linoleum block. They will create a series of prints using their blocks, which they will have time to embellish before they take home at the end of the week.

Mosaics with Kim Hogan

Students will learn to safely handle tools and glass to create their own mosaic designs. Students will be able to work at their own pace and make multiple mosaics over the course of the weeks.

Drawing Characters from Cartoons, Anime, and Videogames with Cotty Kilbanks

Have fun learning to draw, ink, and color popular characters from cartoons, anime, and videogames, and use your drawing skills to design your own characters as well!

Woodland Magic: Fairies and Gnomes and their Homes with Polymer Clay with Lexi Schnabel

Campers can unleash their imagination and create a miniature fantastical world using polymer clay. They will create many individual pieces that add up to one larger scene, which includes figurines of imaginative creatures, a fairytale cottage, or a stylized door or portal.

Digital Art: ProCreate Basics with Tatiana Amadour

Learn the basics of digital art using ProCreate. Students will create and color simple designs, draw characters, and more, as they build their skills and create digital artwork on an iPad. (iPads are provided for this studio intensive.)

For motivated learners looking for a challenge! Make a stuffed plushie that lights up. You’ll learn the basics of hand sewing to make your own little monster, then build an LED circuit to light up your creation.

Watercolor Painting with Emily Petras

Dive into watercolors in this introductory intensive. Students will learn a variety of watercolor techniques, and put their favorites into practice as they create multiple paintings over the course of the week.

Transform everyday recycled materials into unique and engaging sculptures! Campers will go through the steps of brainstorming, planning, building, and completing a sculpture using everyday supplies.

Intro to Crochet with Emily Petras

Discover the fundamentals of crochet in a fun and supportive environment. Students will learn to make a foundation chain, and master basic stitches like single and double crochet. They will learn to follow a simple pattern as they work to create a project of their choice, a hat or scarf. Students will leave with the confidence and skills to explore more complex crochet projects in the future.

Watercolor Portraits and Landscapes with Jackie Rambo

Using found objects, vintage objects, and learning sewing and mixed media techniques, students will invent ways to mend and adorn their own jewelry baubles and fashion.

 

Sculpting and Sewing Toys with Cotty Kilbanks

Students will make a model toy using Sculpey clay, and then transform that into a hand-sewn stuffed toy. They will learn about pattern making, stuffing and other facets of toymaking.
