Iron Pour at 7:00pm

To be performed in front of the Bethlehem SteelStacks. Sculptor, Coral Lambert will use her portable iron furnace to melt and cast hot iron stars in the shape of the City’s Bethlehem Star. Digital Pioneer, Paul Higham will accompany the performance iron pour with a composition of industrial sounds sampled from the environment.

The performance will start at dusk and the iron casters will carry the stars, walk along the lawn front of the stacks and place them in premade stands much like setting a flagpole. They will slowly fade as the sound composition plays and the molten iron is poured. About 40 stars will be poured over a one-hour period.

The original ‘Starry Starry Night’ was performed at Salem Art Works is part of a series of molten iron + fire performance works that British Sculptor Coral Lambert has been developing in tandem with Sound by Digital Artist Paul Higham over the past 30 years. Projects include ‘The Seeping Furnace’ Franconia, USA, ‘Volcano Furnace’ Latvia, ‘Diamonds’, Basel, Switzerland, ‘Ferrous Bloom’ NY and ‘Flowers of Elysium’ Berlin, Garden of Fiery Delights at the Brandenburgh Industrial Museum, Germany and ‘Ferrum Lux’ at The Historic Carrie Furnaces, Pittsburgh, PA in 2023 as part of the Festival of Combustion.

Each work is site and time specific. Each performance results in cast iron sculpture that is exhibited later.

The casting of the stars becomes a story to be told by those who were there. The ‘Star Factory’ uses a portable coke fired iron furnace that melts recycled iron with the assistance of an experienced crew.
