April Volunteer Spotlight

Each month, our volunteer committee decides on volunteers to spotlight. For May 2024, the volunteer committee selected Joe Fulfs! Joe volunteers at a wide range of our events from Musikfest, Café shows, Christkindlmarkt, and many more. He is always ready to lend a hand and we love having him be a part of the ArtsQuest community. We thank him and look forward to seeing him soon! 

Q: What is something your fellow volunteers would be surprised to learn about you?     
A: Some people think I have a New England accent. Someone once even asked me if I was from England. I actually grew up in NYC/north Jersey, but spent a year in Texas when I was 1-2 years old and just learning to talk, which I’m guessing had a permanently strange effect on my accent. But most people hear the New Jersey in me.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not volunteering?
A: Golf in season and volunteering with other organizations, like Meals on Wheels and at an animal shelter.

Q: If you could pick any act to play on the main stage at Musikfest, who would you pick and why?    
A: Er, the Rolling Stones? I’ve never seen them live. Am I asking too much? I’d settle for Pink Floyd.

Q: What is your favorite memory from volunteering?
A: During my first year volunteering, one night I was a beer server (which I found out I’m terrible at, cups and mugs full of foam) while an Abba tribute band (one of my least favorite groups) played for hours right next to the tent. No, not my favorite memory, but a memorable one that makes me laugh when I recall it. Things have gone a lot better for me volunteering at ArtsQuest since.

 

Q: Who inspires you?
A: Well, since they nominated me for this honor, I’ll say the Volunteer Committee, and actually all the volunteers who I’ve had the pleasure of working with. The dedication of the uber volunteers (we all know who they are) inspires me, and the camaraderie of the volunteers at all the events is remarkable.
