February 2022 Volunteer Spotlight

Photo of Linda Savino

Each month, our volunteer committee decides on volunteers to spotlight. For February 2022, we wanted to recognize a volunteer who is a familiar face in the Front of House at Christkindlmarkt: Linda Savino!

Q: What inspired you to begin volunteering?
A: I have always done volunteer work in some capacity – church, school when my kids were young, Meals on Wheels – and I thought ArtsQuest looked like it would be fun. There are so many different ways to participate that I knew I would find something there that would interest me.

Q: What is something your fellow volunteers would be surprised to learn about you?
A: I play ice hockey with a women’s team called the Arctic Foxes based in Clifton Park NY. Since I moved to Bethlehem 6 years ago I don’t get to play with them very often but I still try to play in tournaments with them. We might be playing this summer in Bethlehem during Musikfest!

Q: Do you volunteer anywhere else besides ArtsQuest?
A: I drive for Meals on Wheels. I try to get a day or two a week, depending on my work schedule. I also work the Celtic Classic, which is another one of my favorite festivals.

Q:What is your favorite part of volunteering at Christkindlmarkt?
A: I love the whole package of Christkindlmarkt. The mood is always so upbeat. The shoppers are happy and having fun, Christmas music (which I love) is playing, the decorations and lights are festive, and I enjoy getting to know some of the other volunteers.

Q: Other than Christkindlmarkt, what is your favorite holiday tradition in the Lehigh Valley?
A: I LOVE Bethlehem at Christmastime! I can walk to Main Street and the southside from my house and when everything is lit up it looks like a scene from a Hallmark movie. I also love the living Nativity at the Rose Garden Park.

Q: If you could pick any act to play at Musikfest, who would you pick and why?
A: To be honest, I am almost always out of town in August and, therefore, I have only been to Musikfest once or twice. I love all kinds of music and I think the best part of Musikfest is being able walk throughout the whole festival and hear every genre of music from rock to bluegrass to country and more.
